Jinan, Shandong, China

Year: 2024-2026

Award-winning magazine: Dezeen

This project explores how building design itself can become an active environmental system, shaping spaces that remain warm in winter and cool in summer. Through the integration of advanced technologies and passive design strategies, the proposal minimizes reliance on mechanical systems while enhancing overall energy performance.

By leveraging thermal mass, natural ventilation, and water-based cooling, the design creates a stable and comfortable indoor climate throughout the year. The architecture responds directly to its environmental context, forming a balanced relationship between built form and natural systems. This approach not only improves spatial quality but also significantly reduces the building’s carbon footprint, positioning sustainability as an inherent outcome of design rather than an added feature.

It uses technologies such as convection ventilation, ground source heat pump, rainwater collection and filtration, and green wall.
