Bluegress Haven

Laojia Village, Hunan, China

Year: 2024-2025

This project takes the promotion of Fair Trade as its core objective, centers on the community economic empowerment of left-behind women, and explores the architectural strategy of combining rural development and cultural protection through the inheritance and dissemination of handicraft culture. Based on the booming development trend of the B&B industry, the design transforms the traditional residence into a compound functional space integrating B&B, handicraft workshop and exhibition hall, so as to realize the dual goals of cultural inheritance and economic value-added.

The economic independence of the left-behind women is promoted through architectural renovation, forming a sustainable community economic model. The project uses architecture as a medium to realize the in-depth combination of fair trade concepts and rural culture protection. Through the optimization of functional space and place-making, it provides a unique cultural experience for tourists and creates a platform for sustainable development for the left-behind women. Ultimately, the project will promote the cultural heritage and economic revival of the ancient Miao village, providing a model of architectural practice for rural revitalization.
